These were 13mm, 2.5M single lead subdermal electrodes made by Rochester Electro-Medical with serial number S81025-A-24RM.\nDepth electrodes were manufactured by Ad-Tech and are Spencer Probe depth electrodes. Each electrode has 10 leads evenly spaced 3-7mm apart.\nWith the exception of patients SD012 and SD022, all implants are depth electrodes. Patients SD012 and SD022 had grid and strip electrodes implanted in addition to several depth electrodes.\nAny channel names beginning with ``C'' were not used and should be dropped from analyses.\nTASK\nParticipants passively listened to 30-45s passages of conversational speech and  verbally answered a 2AC content question after each passage. 6 blocks with 7 passages per block.\nMISSING DATA\nAnatomical scans for particpant SD012 are not available due to excessive movement artifacts.","recording_modality":["ieeg"],"senior_author":"Timothy Gentner","sessions":["01","02"],"size_bytes":13278807157,"source":"openneuro","study_design":null,"study_domain":null,"tasks":["PassiveListen"],"timestamps":{"digested_at":"2026-04-22T12:26:47.749062+00:00","dataset_created_at":"2023-08-16T01:23:55.497Z","dataset_modified_at":"2023-08-18T14:37:54.000Z"},"total_files":11,"storage":{"backend":"s3","base":"s3://openneuro.org/ds004703","raw_key":"dataset_description.json","dep_keys":["CHANGES","README","participants.tsv"]},"tagger_meta":{"config_hash":"4a051be509a0e3d0","metadata_hash":"91648bb48e24edbc","model":"openai/gpt-5.2","tagged_at":"2026-01-20T10:45:21.690693+00:00"},"tags":{"pathology":["Surgery"],"modality":["Auditory"],"type":["Memory"],"confidence":{"pathology":0.7,"modality":0.85,"type":0.65},"reasoning":{"few_shot_analysis":"Closest few-shot convention matches are: (1) the auditory continuous speech/music dataset labeled as Modality=Auditory and Type=Perception, because it involves listening to speech stimuli; and (2) the digit-span dataset labeled Type=Memory, because it involves retaining heard information to respond later. This dataset combines passive listening to relatively long speech passages with a subsequent content question, making it closer in cognitive demand to the Memory example than to a pure low-level auditory Perception example, while keeping Modality=Auditory consistent with both.","metadata_analysis":"Key population/task facts in the README include: (1) intracranial implantation context: \"For all patients, a scalp electrode was used for referencing and ground.\" and \"Depth electrodes were manufactured by Ad-Tech and are Spencer Probe depth electrodes.\" plus \"Patients SD012 and SD022 had grid and strip electrodes implanted\"—indicating a neurosurgical intracranial EEG cohort. (2) auditory speech task: \"Participants passively listened to 30-45s passages of conversational speech\" and \"verbally answered a 2AC content question after each passage.\"","paper_abstract_analysis":"No useful paper information.","evidence_alignment_check":"Pathology: Metadata says participants are \"patients\" with \"depth electrodes\" and some with \"grid and strip electrodes implanted\" (intracranial recording implying a surgical/implant context). Few-shot patterns: the intraoperative SEP dataset maps neurosurgical intraoperative contexts to Pathology=Surgery. ALIGN (both point to a surgical patient cohort); no explicit epilepsy diagnosis is stated, so do not up-label to Epilepsy.\nModality: Metadata says \"passively listened to ... conversational speech\". Few-shot patterns: auditory stimulation datasets are Modality=Auditory. ALIGN.\nType: Metadata says participants listen to long passages and then \"answered a 2AC content question\". Few-shot patterns: pure listening/encoding tasks can map to Perception (speech/music) when primarily sensory/evoked responses, but tasks requiring retaining heard material to answer later map to Memory (digit span). PARTIAL ALIGN with both; the presence of post-passage content questions pushes toward Memory over Perception, but language comprehension is not an explicit Type label here.","decision_summary":"Pathology top-2: (A) Surgery—supported by \"patients\" and repeated implantation details (\"Depth electrodes...\", \"grid and strip electrodes implanted\"); aligns with few-shot neurosurgical/intraoperative convention. (B) Epilepsy—plausible given typical depth electrode use, but NOT explicitly stated; rejected due to lack of explicit diagnosis. Final: Surgery. Confidence=0.7 (explicit patient/implant quotes but no named diagnosis).\nModality top-2: (A) Auditory—supported by \"passively listened\" and \"conversational speech\"; strong few-shot analog to other auditory listening datasets. (B) Multisensory—no evidence of non-auditory stimulus. Final: Auditory. Confidence=0.85 (multiple direct quotes + strong convention match).\nType top-2: (A) Memory—supported by need to retain passage content for a later \"2AC content question\". (B) Perception—also plausible because the core stimulus is speech listening. Final: Memory, because the task explicitly includes post-stimulus content recall/comprehension demands rather than only sensory encoding. Confidence=0.65 (clear task description but construct could also be framed as language perception/comprehension, which is not a dedicated label)."}},"nemar_citation_count":2,"computed_title":"sEEG Passive listening to natural speech","nchans_counts":[{"val":148,"count":4},{"val":276,"count":2},{"val":277,"count":2},{"val":279,"count":2},{"val":280,"count":1}],"sfreq_counts":[{"val":1024.0,"count":7},{"val":512.0,"count":4}],"stats_computed_at":"2026-04-22T23:16:00.308178+00:00","total_duration_s":32727.8125,"author_year":"Mai2023","canonical_name":null}}
